In need of a quick and easy hairstyle? Make a braid. Radhika Sathe-Patwardhan has a step-by-step guide to help your client look fabulous in minutes
Braids have been around since times immemorial. They can be as simple as your schooltime pigtails or include elaborate weaves and textures. Here’s a list of some simple and versatile braid styles that will have your client looking like a diva.
THE TRADITIONAL BRAID
The three-strand braid from the school days, if you sported long hair, forms the most basic braid style. Method: Part the hair into three sections. Take the left section over the middle and place it in between the right and middle sections. Pull it tight. Then take the right section over the left one you placed before, in between the left and middle sections. Pull it tightly and continue till you reach the end, and secure it well. You can gently tug the braid to add volume or muss it up a bit for a messy braid.
CLASSIC FRENCH BRAID
This is one of the oldest styles and many variations have been derived from it. Method: This braid starts off like a traditional braid, using a chunk of hair at the crown. As you move towards the base of the head, section in more hair with the left and right parts and include it in the braid. Move down by including new hair sections with each crossover till you reach the nape of the neck and run out of hair. Continue the braid in the traditional style till the end, before you secure it.
CORNROWS
There are many styles of cornrows. What you need to do is to pick the cornrow style you want to sport. It could be a swirling cornrow, a skinny cornrow, a pulled- back cornrow or even a twisted cornrow.
