Gospel star Winnie Mashaba talks about leaning on God and producing music that speaks to the hearts of people
IT has been two decades since gospel singer, Winnie Mashaba, broke into the music industry. The 37-year-old grew up in Limpopo with a family that was deeply rooted in the ministry, and everyone was very much involved. Her grandfather was a priest at the Zion Christian Church (ZCC) and when the star joined the family church’s choir, she never imagined that she would soon take it to the world. But her late mother saw the passion and channelled her through stardom.
BLESSING THE MASSESThe star’s late mother did not only nurture Winnie’s talent by encouraging her to sing and share the gospel, she also took it upon herself to ensure that Winnie met all the right people. Winnie was only a teenager when her mother introduced her to the already great Solly Moholo, and the veteran became a mentor and producer to the gifted Winnie.
