PEOPLE living with HIV are faced with a lot of challenges such as monitoring their CD4 count and managing their immune system, which can be compromised by other illnesses. Another thing they have to deal with is managing their stress levels caused by things such as having to disclose their status to their partner. One of the characters, Khumbulani, told his girlfriend, Smangele, about his status, but she did not respond how he had hoped. She understood his situation, but could not see herself in a relationship with someone who is HIV positive and the pair called it quits.
