FOR every woman who is ready to settle down, it is always a special moment when you have met the man you want to spend the rest of your life with. However, for Shalati Marothi (39) from Modimolle, Limpopo, what was supposed to be happily ever after turned into a nightmare.

NOT PRINCE CHARMING AFTER ALL

Shalati says her life changed when she met a man who she thought was her prince charming, but he turned out to be a liar. “I met my ex-husband in 2000 and we got married in 2002. But he divorced me in 2008 because I couldn’t give him children. After the divorce, I stayed single for two years and in 2010 I met Thabiso Kunene* who I thought was the one, but I was wrong,” shares Shalati.

She met Thabiso at her previous workplace, where she worked as a sales person.

“He was a mechanic and used to come and buy car parts at my workplace. He was always with his son. We started talking and we became friends. We later got into a relationship and months later I moved in with him. I loved his son so much that I treated him like my own and it felt so good to be called mom,” says Shalati.

“His son was nine months old at the time and when I asked Thabiso about the baby mama, he always told me that she was an alcoholic, not fit to be a mother and they were no longer together.”
