THE HOLLYWOOD ACTRESS IS A WANNABE POLITICIAN

A SENSE of Cynthia

This year was going to be a good one for Cynthia Nixon. In March, she was due to start filming The Gilded Age, the historic drama series developed by Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes, and there was talk of work possibly beginning on the second season of her new TV show, Ratched, after the first one began airing on Netflix in September.

But like everyone else, the actress had not reckoned on COVID-19, and instead much of 2020 has involved staying at home, watching TV and baking.

Being out of work has been something of a shock for Cynthia, 54, who first performed professionally when she was 12 and has worked fairly steadily since, including her six-year stint as Miranda on Sex and the City.

She admits homeschooling her nine-year-old son Max has also been a challenge.

“It’s been really hard, particularly homeschooling because parents aren’t teachers and our son misses his friends,” she tells. “But I have money in the bank and a partner who is with me, so any complaints that we have are so minor compared to what so many people are going through.”

Cynthia lives in New York with Max, her wife Christine Marinoni and her son Charles, 17, from her first marriage (she also has an older son, Sam, 23). It’s been nice hanging out with her family during lockdown, she says.
