The Two Women Are Turning To Each Other For Support
They are both divorcées who have overturned established protocol to marry into the British royal family – but that, on the face of it, is the end of the similarities between Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.
Yet the 71-year-old Brit has gone out of her way to befriend the American and has become her guide to the new life she has embarked on with Prince Harry.
“As Princess Diana once said, ‘There is no manual telling you what to do when you join the royal family.’ Camilla has become that manual for Meghan,” says a friend of Prince Charles’ wife.
“Nobody knows better how it feels to be an outsider and nobody is more aware of how much can go wrong.”
From the start of Meghan’s relationship with Harry (34), Camilla has been a cheerleader – in public as well as private. She hailed her as “a star” when the engagement was announced, adding, “It’s all very exciting. Can’t wait!
“In a climate where we are surrounded by a lot of bad news, it’s a real joy to have a bit of good news for once... America’s loss is our gain” – a reference to Meghan’s plan to become a British citizen.
Meghan (37), in turn, is grateful that Camilla made it possible for a divorced woman to marry her prince.
“When the Queen gave her permission for Charles to marry Camilla, she was effectively ending centuries of royal tradition,” says a palace insider.
