From firing hard-hitting questions at New Zealand politicians during lockdown, to walking through boarded-up streets in Washington DC during the Presidential elections, TVNZ journalist Jack Tame has endured a busy 2020. Now, the Q&A host is gearing up for his next big gig, covering the America’s Cup match races, where he’ll catch live scenes at Auckland’s Viaduct Harbour.
“I’m really excited for it to start!” says the former TVNZ New York correspondent. “I feel incredibly privileged to be a part of reporting for what’s going to be the most exhilarating environment. We’re so lucky to have the event in New Zealand right now because so much of the world is still in such a terrible state.”
While he doesn’t know a lot about hydrofoiling – an electric boat technology that helps increase speed – the Newstalk ZB Saturday Morning host has some basic sailing experience.
“One of the first things I did when I moved back to New Zealand after living in the States for five years was a sailing course, so I have a level two sailing qualification,” he tells. “I learnt to sail in a one-person yacht and it was so much fun.”
Already, the former Breakfast star has visited the Team New Zealand base, where engineers are working on state-of-the-art AC75 hydrofoil monohull boats. “I couldn’t help but feel proud of how we’re driving forward this incredible boating technology,” says Jack, 33.
