Carol Burnett is no stranger to hardships in her life, and now she is determined to protect her grandson from sharing the same troubled childhood she experienced.
The 87-year-old entertainer has been granted temporary guardianship of 14-year-old Dylan, son of her youngest daughter Erin Hamilton. In the guardianship petition Carol filed, she wrote, “Throughout her adult life, and since Dylan’s birth, Erin has suffered from severe substance abuse and addiction issues.
“In the past 19 years, Erin has been in and out of rehabilitation centres and has been institutionalised a total of eight times for a minimum of 30 days each time.”
But the actress has made it clear that she does not want to keep the family apart and has no intention of seeking full custody. This is simply to give her grandson a stable home life while his mother gets help with her issues.
“Guardianship is not intended to deny him nor the parents’ proper visitation with one another. We look forward to recovery being the next stepping stone.”
But a friend has shared that if necessary, Carol and her husband Brian Miller, 64, are more than willing to raise Dylan until he goes to college.
