The Cambridges Welcome a New Prince of Hearts

Waves Of Delight William & Kate's Little Cherubs

It was not quite a royal wave. But as the new Prince of Cambridge was introduced to the world on the steps of the London hospital where he’d been born just seven hours earlier, he managed a regal wiggle of his tiny little fingers.

It was a very appropriate start to public life for the baby boy, who became the newest member of the royal family when he was delivered at 11.01 am on April 23.

The new prince, who is fifth in line to the throne, made his debut snuggled in the arms of his beaming mother Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, who looked stunning in a red dress and high heels. She and Prince William were all smiles as they briefly presented their newborn to a huge crowd of well-wishers and media gathered outside the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s Hospital in London.

They didn’t stay long to show off their second son – Kate (36) murmured to William (35) that she was worried about the baby getting cold – and after a few minutes, headed back inside the hospital to say their farewells and thank yous to staff. When they re-emerged a few minutes later, the couple were hand-in-hand, with proud dad William carrying his third-born in a baby seat, which he expertly fitted into the back of a Range Rover.

“We’re very happy, delighted,” William told the crowd, before holding up three fingers and adding, “Thrice the worry now.” He said, joking, that this baby hadn’t kept the world waiting too long, and then drove his new son, Kate and a bodyguard back to Kensington Palace.
