‘We switched up the DIY DIAL!'

Sophie and Sean put their refurb skills to the test, transforming a small en suite into a contemporary bathing space

ABOUT ME I’m Sophie Toomey, 36. I live with my husband, Sean, 33, and our daughter Murphy, two, in a four-bed house in Swindon. This is our second home together, and our master bedroom and bathroom were the last rooms to be renovated after the living spaces.

MY CHALLENGE To extend our small en suite into a larger space, with the intention of undertaking much of the work ourselves.

MY WISH LIST The most important aspect was to make sure the finished result reflected our love of bold design and colour. We wanted to get rid of the shower over the bath, and put in a walk-in shower and separate freestanding bath.

Our 1950s property, although liveable, needed updating and a new layout that would better suit our growing family,’ says Sophie. ‘The previous owners had added rear and side extensions, but the rooms didn’t flow.
