25 money-saving Health Hacks

While it's always worth investing in your health, during money-tight times like these, knowing how to make simple savings can be a lifesaver.

Here's what you need to know.

1 MAKE THE MOST OF FREE PRESCRIPTIONS…

If you’re 60-plus or have a medical exemption certificate, your prescriptions are free. If you’re on Income Support, you may also be eligible, so check with your pharmacist.

2 … OR GET A DEAL

It may be cheaper to buy a PPC (prescription prepayment certificate). This covers all your NHS medical and dental prescriptions. A year’s prepayment costs £108.10 and saves money if you need more than 11 prescriptions in 12 months.

3 NEVER WASTE MONEY ON FAKE MEDS

They’re often produced without any quality control and are not what they claim to be.

4 STORE SAFELY

Don’t keep supplements in the kitchen or bathroom. This exposes them to damage from dampness and light, meaning you may have to replace them sooner.

5 CLAIM A FREE EYE TEST

Adults 60 or over can get a test for free. You’re also eligible if you have diabetes or are at risk of glaucoma if you’re registered as partially sighted or blind, and in other circumstances, eg if you’re on Income Support. See nhs.uk.

6 CHECK YOUR HEARING
