NORTHUMBERLAND

With dramatic arcs of windswept sands, craggy cliffs and brooding castles overlooking the icy North Sea, it’s easy to see why much of Northumberland’s coastline has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are around 40 miles of dramatic ‘heritage’ shores to marvel at, and with a coastal path running from Berwickupon-Tweed all the way to the River Coquet, it’s perfect for walkers and nature-lovers. Sea life The Northumberland Coast is one of the most significant areas in Europe for the Atlantic grey seal, which can be seen at any time of year. Dolphins and whales are also increasingly common.
