Reading the email for the second time, I could hardly believe it. a few months before I’d entered a competition I felt sure I wasn’t good enough for, but now I’d been shortlisted as a finalist. at 53, I felt happier than I had in a long time and I knew that this was just the beginning.
For as long as I can remember, sport has dominated my life. As a child, my PE teacher encouraged me to practise after school. It wasn’t until I was a senior that I did my first international race in track and field and found that I was really good at it. In my 20s I started training for the Barcelona Olympics.
