So to mark the birthday of the nation’s bard, Robert Burns (also know as Rabbie), on 25 January, we’re highlighting some of the amazing Scottish innovations that have revolutionised the way we live…
Refrigerator
At times, there isn’t much need for a fridge in Scotland, but it was at the University of Glasgow in 1748 that the first demonstration of artificial refrigeration took place. Professor William Cullen showed his students the cooling effects of evaporation, and even produced s ice. Cullen’s idea was never u ed for practical purposes, b t it became t basis of our m n fridges.
