Tapping into trends
Sales of houseplants are booming, thanks to a trend for leafy interiors and a desire for people to connect with nature, especially those who don’t have a garden.
As well as being lovely to look at and fun to grow, studies show that houseplants are good for our health and wellbeing. Some improve air quality and help lower blood pressure, and may reduce fatigue and headaches.
Location, location
The secret to happy houseplants is choosing the right plant for the right place. That means matching a plant to room temperature and light levels across the seasons.
Humidity is another consideration – a dry, centrally heated living room won’t suit damp-loving ferns, whereas a steamy bathroom will keep them looking lush.
