Lurking in your endless to-do list is probably ‘Write a will’, along with ‘Sort out the kitchen drawer’ and ‘Take up yoga’. More than half of UK adults don’t have a will* – and if you’re one of them, book ahead for Will Aid month in November, when a solicitor will write your will for a donation to charity.
What can a will do?
A will gives you control over who inherits what (avoiding arguments), but also serves other functions. These can include funeral requests, such as burial or cremation and choice of music, to leaving a gift to charities, organisations or people who were important to you, even making provision for a pet.
