Gwendoline And Elisabeth Are A Dream Team!
When Woman’s Day meets Elisabeth Moss and Gwendoline Christie in the historic bathing pavilion above Sydney’s Bondi Beach, they’ve just finished filming their final scene for the second season of Top of the Lake, a dramatic stand-off in the sand.
Petite Californian brunette Elisabeth, 35, is still dressed as detective Robin Griffin in a business-like pantsuit, while 1.9m-tall English blonde Gwendoline, 38, towers over her in the frumpy cop uniform of her character Miranda Hilmarsson.
They look an odd couple, but it’s immediately clear the actresses have formed a strong bond over four months of shooting Top of the Lake:China Girl in Australia. Just don’t ask them about their friendship.
“Oh, we don’t like each other – I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Elisabeth deadpans. “Yes, I’ve seen her in Game of Thrones, but I’m not a fan.”
This causes her co-star to burst into dirty great peals of contagious laughter. Actually, Gwendoline confesses, they adore each other and have done since before they even met.
“I was such a fan of the first Top of the Lake and the incredible performance that Elisabeth gave,” admits the actress who appeared in The Hunger Games and Star Wars: Episode VIII but is most famous for her role as Brienne of Tarth in Game of Thrones.
