We've all heard stories about amicable splits and bad break-ups, but you don't often read about separations as quirky as the one between Waikato couple Tesh Randall and Seb Walter. However, to anyone who knows them, it was just the kind of unconventional genius that the two have used to build a successful business.
After seven years together, the pair - who were engaged at the time announced that they were separating by filming an online video, complete with a drumroll before breaking the big news, then sending it to everyone they knew.
"Some people thought we were announcing a baby," laughs Tesh, 31. "We just wanted a fun way to announce it as we felt it'd be tedious to have the same conversation with people over and over again. We figured that if we made a video together, people could see we'd worked things through, and were committed to being friends and business partners."
Founders of the Raglan Food Co vegan yoghurt and condiment company, Tesh and Seb embody the typical Raglan "hippie" vibe - they're free-spirited, creative and obsessed with sustainability. But what sets them apart is their entrepreneurial prowess.
Known in their small beachside community as "Mr and Mrs Coconut" due to a common ingredient in their products, the pair met eight years ago, in Auckland, at a monk's talk on how to achieve happiness.
After finance guru Seb, 35, asked the speaker a question about business, marketing whizz Tesh's ears pricked up.
It's business as usual for the exes.
