No one was more surprised than proud Queensland dog owner Stacey Raw when her adorable Neapolitan mastiff gave birth to 21 puppies instead of the expected eight.

“We’re still in shock! We rushed her to the local Animal Emergency Service, but nothing could’ve prepared us for what came next,” Stacey, 39, tells Woman’s Day from her family home in Kingston.

“By the time we got there, we thought she was going to die. It took a team of 10 vets and nurses – they’re real-life angels, every one of them! We were told to expect the worst after she’d already given birth to three pups at home and had lost a lot of blood.

“They took radiographs and discovered at least another 10 puppies inside. I’ve never prayed so hard in my life.”
