Designing Her Own Life
Women Exclusive|September 2016

Creativity and uniqueness goes hand in hand and so is the design of attires. Not everyone possess it but very few live for it and so is Purnima Ganesh. This 26 years old, bold and bubbly entrepreneur shares her beautiful journey of designing unique attires and classy bangles that people love with.

Amritha Prem
Designing Her Own Life

As a child, Purnima Ganesh always wanted to be the cherry on the cake and popular. Her mom used to talk about different color combinations, designs, patterns and there began her fascination for fashion. Though she wanted to get into NIFT after completing her 12th standard, my parents were against it and she landed up doing BBA. But the pinch of not pursuing fashion degree intrigued and when she started preparing for CAT exams to study further, an idea piped. When she had a lot of time left while pursuing MBA, she established my own unit of manufacturing elegant, kota sarees from the north simultaneously and through word of mouth it became popular. Her specialty also includes customizing her own tassel knots instead of purchasing the readymade ones and making saree transformation into Kurtis, and Anarkalis etc.

So what is the boutique name ‘Avanthika’ design studio, she replies saying that while searching meaning for princess in different languages, I choose Avanthika which means princess in Sanskrit.

So what makes you special from the other designers?

I choose bright and subtle colors as per the customer’s skin tone and taste, followed by discussing the ideas they like and ways to improvise it without asking for an advance that every designer ask for. The final output I expect is the compliments and customer satisfaction than profit.

What are the challenges you faced as an entrepreneur?
