Two AMERICAN HERRING GULLS HAVE recently made landfall in Britain, with one visiting Cornwall’s Hayle Estuary intermittently during February, followed by another just days later at Stornoway harbour in the Outer Hebrides. Formerly considered conspecific with our own European herring gull, it’s now widely recognised as a separate species.
