NAPOLEON BONAPARTE’S most famous portrait is on his grey Arab Marengo, the archetypal cavalry horse. Eddie would have been a good model.
“We call him the white charger,” says Edward Page, joint master of the Bedale. “In eight seasons, he’s never put a stop in.”
Indeed, it is nigh impossible to prevent him from jumping.
“He’s a lunatic!” Edward laughs. “If you don’t come at a hanging gate on a funny angle or sideways, he’ll jump it even if you don’t want to.”
The 17hh Irish sports horse is ideal for Edward’s needs.
“I bought him as an out-and-out field master’s horse when I joined the mastership in 2016,” he explains. “I knew I needed a machine.”
Edward’s wife Chloe found him, “down country” with Hayden Hankey in Cheshire.
