The vast and vibrant history of India lives through the rubbles of buildings and echoes of whispered tales. Some stories remain carved into these walls while some elaborately hidden in the trimmings. Culture traced through architecture and architecture manifested through emotions, whatever route leads towards the mystery of time, it ultimately entwines within the many roots of one India.
How does this eatery emerge with its own identity when its Mughal walls compete over the French? Or how do these marketplaces sell stories with commodities? Conjure up contextual cultures of Ahmedabad and Udaipur homes and mourn the memory of earthquake victims in Anjar. Leaf through the journey of six designs that emboss the tradition of India within contemporary contexts.
NEO NAWAB
Awadh Shilpgram, an urban bazaar in Lucknow, is a stunning ode to the city's tradition and context.
Conceptualised by Studio Archohm, this stunning interpretation of an urban bazaar to celebrate local craftsmanship is an architectural marvel of plenty - replete with contemporary takes on traditional architecture, an exquisite play of materiality, and spatial planning that oozes thoughtful curation. The site enjoys good frontage on Amar Shaheed Path Road in Lucknow and is located in a fast-developing area. The vision for this Shilpgram was to provide a single platform for craft from all over the country, besides enhancing the Lucknowi arts and crafts. As such, the architecture of the Shilpgram strives to emulate interaction with the buyers, setting it apart from other such centres and depicting the old Lucknow architecture in a modern way through arches and jaalis.
