Heroes need watches too. Preferably something that lights up or is fully submersible

WATCHES: TIME TO BE A HERO

TIMEX IRONMAN

This no-nonsense piece of kit was developed in the Eighties for triathletes and anyone else who needed to operate a stopwatch with chilly fingers. The Indiglo feature was added in the early Nineties. As well as tough outdoor types, a famous early adopter was US president Bill Clinton. Some people thought he should be wearing something more presidential, like a Rolex, but his favourite Timex got the last laugh - it is now displayed in the Smithsonian Institution alongside Abraham Lincoln's pocket watch. This version is a collaboration with adventure wear brand Huckberry and features a 99-lap timer, a 44mm resin case and a sturdy resin strap.

Water resistant to 100m. The Indiglo light has a handsfree feature if you feel like holding your light up in the air.

When you think of a hero rescuing people from a high-rise building, your mind probably goes to the movies... Steve McQueen in Towering Inferno, or Bruce Willis in Die Hard. And each of them had a handsome piece of wrist candy – McQueen wore a Rolex, Willis a TAG Heuer. But there is also a real-life hero who was able to save the day thanks to an entry level watch with an illuminating innovation.
