THE 24 HOURS OF LE Mans Centenary Trophy has been won by Ferrari AF Corse. The Italian T manufacturer, making its first appearance in the top division of endurance racing in 56 years, claimed its ninth outright victory in the French classic. Along with their LMGTE Pro victory in 2019, Alessandro Pier Guidi and James Calado have now achieved their first outright victory. Antonio Giovinazzi joined them up there for the first time in his second appearance at Le Mans.
The biggest endurance event in the world's history certainly lived up to its reputation in its centenary year. In every class, bumper crowds were treated to exciting clashes wherein the outcome vas uncertain until the very end.
The #8 Toyota GRO10-Hybrid failed to overtake the #51 Ferrari 499P Hypercar. The lead was traded several times throughout the course of the first 12 hours. Due to two significant rain showers, many of the 16 Hypercars on the starting grid held the lead at some point in the early going.
The second half of the race was a frantic two-horse race between the #2 Cadillac V-Series and several accidents and race mishaps.
