THE AUTOMOBILE CLASS OF THE 2023 DAKAR Rally was won by Nasser Al-Attiyah and his co-driver, Mathieu Baumel, who once again triumphed in a Toyota Hilux. It marks the team’s fifth victory, the Toyota Hilux Dakar’s third, and all three have triumphed twice in a row.
The Frenchman, Sebastien Loeb, who finished second last year as well, trailed the 52-year-old Nasser al-Attiyah by more than an hour in the overall standings after the 52-year-old won three stages. Lucas Moraes of Brazil, a colleague of Al-at Attiyah’s Toyota team, came in third. With a dominating lead after the first week and a safety-first approach in the second half of the race, Al-Attiyah claimed the overall lead following the third stage.
