IN SOME WAYS, THE NOTION OF HAVING a Lamborghini Huracán Spyder as an everyday car is completely mad. My guess is that the average owner probably has five or six other cars for mundane duties. Even so, when I got the chance to drive our V10-powered runaround, my dearly held journalistic principles very quickly evaporated. Any time you get an audience with Lamborghini's ten-cylinder masterpiece is special. I'm not sure if this engine gets better and better or whether it just seems that way because newer and downsized rivals get less and less exciting.
The first few days were all about that V10. The noise, the response and the sheer drama of it are vivid reminders of everything we love about internal combustion. And whilst this car is 'slow' and 'underpowered' compared to, say, a 296 GTS, the reality is that it feels utterly ballistic and has a lovely sense of being 'always on' thanks to really short gearing. The old cliché about making every journey an event is absolutely true in this instance.
