<p>The Volkswagen Virtus and Taiguns have set new endurance records, proving their mettle, but besides world-class engineering, a car also needs an excellent set of tyres, no? Apollo Tyres provided the tyres for the Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus driven for the record runs and all five cars were running Apollo Alnac 4G tyres. These&nbsp;tyres are part of Apollo&rsquo;s wide range of tyres for Indian cars and we&rsquo;re told the Alnac 4G range has been developed specifically for Indian driving conditions. Of course, using these tyres for a 24 hour endurance run meant the tyres were being pushed beyond their usual limits, as we were going pedal to metal, driving the Volkswagen at over 200kmph constantly.</p>
<p>The tyres though provided optimal grip, affording&nbsp;high confidence levels in the 1.0-TSI engine powered&nbsp;Taigun that I was driving, whether during the day when air temperatures were above 30 degrees Celsius or in the night when temperatures dipped well below 15 degrees Celsius. It&rsquo;s also worth noting that despite the cars being driven at full speed for hours at a stretch, there was no loss of grip and the tyre temperature was well within limits too, thanks to the excellent tread design and heat dissipation. And even after several hours of driving the tyres didn&rsquo;t seem to be wearing out, except for going through the heat cycles, which is remarkable. Needless to mention, an automobile&rsquo;s tyres are its only contact patch with the tarmac, which underlines the importance of good tyres. And for the record, the Volkswagen Virtus 1.0 ran nonstop for 24 hours on just one set of tyres, covering 4,357.21km. Doesn&rsquo;t get better in terms of proving mettle and the rubber both, does it?</p>
