The season of Indian automotive awards has commenced and we start with the most prestigious and one that is often regarded as the Oscar of the Indian automotive industry, the Indian Car of the Year aka ICOTY award. 2023 was a successful year for the industry with multiple manufacturers achieving record sales. With numerous new launches throughout the year, it was a tough ask for the jury, consisting of some of the top automotive journalists in the country, to shortlist contenders for the top honours.
In the end, the Hyundai Exter came on top winning the Indian Car of the Year award for 2024! It may be the smallest SUV in Hyundai India's lineup, but the Exter packs in good interior space, ample features and most importantly, offers fantastic value for money. The Maruti Suzuki Jimny, another strong contender, took the first runner-up position followed by the Honda Elevate and Toyota Innova Hycross sharing the second runner-up position. Other contenders for ICOTY 2024 included the Citroën C3 Aircross, Hyundai Verna, Mahindra XUV400 and the MG Comet.
