I've always had a love-hate relationship with the Himalayan 411. Love because of how easy it was to ride and hate because it had quality issues. Taking the longterm Himalayan 450 from Ben and riding for my daily commute was surprisingly different - it's faster, the engine feels more responsive, and can rev harder. While there's not much torque at lower revs, twisting the throttle helps you power through after a brief lag. The ride-by-wire throttle feels laggy, taking a moment to respond which you need to get used to.The suspension is a marvel - it soaks up everything without compromising on the feel and firmness. The way the Himalayan 450 is set up is brilliant, it handles as if you are riding a motorcycle on a 19-inch front tyre and not a 21inch one. It is quite flickable and coupled with the brilliant suspension and engine, offers an engaging experience.I am new to Pune and a feature like the Tripper Dash feel like a blessing. It is so good that I do not mind my phone screen staying on in order for the maps to be mirrored on the Tripper screen. Pune rains have played havoc with the switchgear. Water ingress has made the joystick operation erratic, I will have to use petroleum jelly to make it usable during the rains. I also plan to do some mods on the motorcycle to make it suit my riding style, but more on that in the next longterm report. The love and hate relationship with Himalayan continues but it is more love and less hate this time around.
