For someone who describes himself as ‘just a bloke’, Mike Brewer has enjoyed an exceptional career. The car dealer turned TV personality has been on our screens for years, recently celebrating the filming of the 20th series of his popular car show, Wheeler Dealers. On it, Mike secures a deal for a car in mechanical disarray, before handing it to his trusty mechanic, which these days is Marc ‘Elvis’ Priestley, to turn it around, before Mike flogs it on for what is hopefully a decent profit. The show has been watched by millions in the UK and US for years, with the odd Porsche making an appearance from time to time, too.
This is telling, because away from the TV cameras, Mike has a real passion for Porsche, evidenced in his growing collection of classic 911s. After a day’s filming on set at Wheeler Dealers HQ, Mike joins us to chat about the cars in his collection, and his general passion for Stuttgart metal…
Total 911: Congratulations on 20 years of Wheeler Dealers, Mike! You must enjoy working on the show immensely.
Mike Brewer: I do, I love it. This is my world. I’m fortunate enough to basically get paid to do what I love. I don’t know much else. I love fixing, restoring and putting cars back on the road. But the fact that I get to do that on television, broadcasting to people all over the world and with one of my best mates is a thrill! I still get excited about it even 20 years on.
Professionally speaking, you wear many different hats. How would you best describe yourself?
