Formula 1 fans all over the world were waiting anxiously for the first triple-header of the season, with the Emilia Romagna (Italian), Monaco, and Spanish Grand Prix. While torrential rains and eventual flooding of Italy's Emilia Romagna region caused the first of the three races to be postponed, the next two&nbsp;races brought along plenty of action to make up for it.
The biggest highlight was the lead gained by Max Verstappen in the championship because Sergio Perez finished 17th and 5th in the Monaco and Spanish GP, respectively.&nbsp;The Dutchman now sits at 170 points, while the Mexican sits at 117 points in the championship table. Checo is closer to Fernando Alonso in third place position than Max, who sits in first place. Speaking of Fernando Alonso, the 41-year-old Spanish driver managed his best race finish in 2023 with a 2nd place podium in Monaco but missed out in Catalunya, ending his podium streak.
Ferrari, on the other hand, managed to have clean races in the first half of the season, but Monaco and Spain saw strategy blunders rear their ugly head for the Maranello-based team. Charles Leclerc managed to qualify third in Monaco but eventually ended up finishing sixth. However, mechanical issues in the Spanish GP qualification caused him to finish out of points in the next race. Carlos Sainz, on the other hand, was on the fringes of a podium finish in both races but ended up taking home an eighth and fifth place, respectively. In other news, Mercedes-AMG managed to finish 4th / 5th in Monaco and 2nd / 3rd in Spain. This has ensured that they are now 2nd in the constructors' championship and firmly back in the fight amongst the top teams. Alpine had reason to celebrate in Monaco, as Esteban Ocon managed a third-place finish in Monaco.
