Mass protests in the streets of Sri Lanka which forced the Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to flee the country naturally unnerved many of the ruling governments, including India. The Government of India quickly called an all-party meeting where the foreign minister S. Jaishankar assured all members that India will never go the Sri Lankan way.
Many of the issues which led to violent mass protests in the streets of Sri Lanka however looked similar in other countries as well. Inflation is on the rise. The cost of fuel has shot up sharply. Essential food items are becoming costly and scarce. The world is still not free from the Covid virus, which is primarily responsible for creating havoc in the world economy. We are still threatened with a fourth or fifth 'wave'.
