Youth & Professionals Will Need Constant Upskilling

THE UNCERTAINTIES that have gripped the world impact every sphere of life, including the world of work. Job aspirants, those already in jobs, as well as employers need a relook at how to sustain jobs through the right skills, not just in terms of hard skills but also adaptability and flexibility.

FOR NEWCOMERS

Today's youth are no longer restricted to a single career because of the developments in the digital world. They may now pursue their hobbies and become specialists in them. For instance, a person I know who likes tinkering with different mechanics is now making and selling cutting-edge furniture online. Look out for newly created chances if you're not feeling very imaginative. Each new technical development opens new fields. While some of these jobs require transferrable talents, others call for scalable skills. Consequently, if you're a recent graduate, be sure to discover your passion before you begin upskilling.

FOR EXPERIENCED PROFESSIONALS

The speed at which technology is changing Indian industries, it will cause a huge skills gap between the workforce's current abilities and what is now needed for them to do their jobs well. As a result, reskilling and upskilling of Indian youth is crucial. Because skill development is a continuous process, it is essential to retain it at all levels because upskilling helps advance your career. According to a recent poll, 31 per cent of respondents felt stalled in their careers because of the pandemic's impact, and 65 per cent have participated in upskilling programmes in the last year to better their professions. If you haven't already joined the 65 per cent of the population, here's some food for thought.
