In today’s hybrid working world, workplace designers are not only building layouts to create an office for employees to make them more comfortable, but also challenge the future of workspaces through their crafts.
With the rebound of people with office spaces post-pandemic, on-site excitement and a comfortable work environment can be created by blending technology, culture and furniture innovation. Roshni Kshirsagar, Partner, SJK Architects, explains, “With the re-entry of the workforce back into the traditional workplace, the ask from the office has changed dramatically. The office has become an epicentre for collaboration, even more so than before. It has to cater to various forms of collaboration, e.g.- in-person and virtual meetings, and a mix of physical and virtual collaborators of varied group sizes. This has also seen an emergence of virtual brainstorming/white-boarding tools such as Miro, Microsoft whiteboard, etc. Whereas, the rise of one-on-one virtual meetings has seen offices opting for single-user phone booths. With several offices moving into hybrid working with no fixed seating, companies are using app-based systems to assign seats/ meeting spaces.”
Changing the design game
With subtle shifts in the business world, each year creates a shift in the trends of office designs. Rachna Agrawal, Founder, Design Ideator, Studio IAAD, expresses, “Some of the evolving trends in office spaces are flexible layouts, neurodiversity, biophilic design, sustainability, integration of AI and ergonomic interiors with a focus on holistic wellness.”
