Afrikaner breed's surprising water-intake efficiency

The latest research results released by the Agricultural Research Council (ARC) have shown that South Africa’s Afrikaner beef cattle breed is ideally suited to counteract the expected impact of climate change on cattle production.

Afrikaner breed's surprising water-intake efficiency

This was according to Dr Wynand Kruger, coordinator of the Bosveld Afrikaner Study Group.

Kruger told Farmer’s Weekly that rising temperatures, shifts in rainfall distribution, and increased frequency of extreme weather conditions such as droughts were some of the effects of climate change that beef producers would have to contend with in the future.
