BUILDING BETTER FUTURES ON THE CONTINENT
Forbes Africa|December 2022 - January 2023
Professional Services firm, Deloitte Africa recently released its 2022 Transparency and Impact Reports, with the aim of reflecting on its transformation and quality journey, and demonstrating the impact the firm has made on people, clients and society on the continent.
BUILDING BETTER FUTURES ON THE CONTINENT

This is our report to society. It is how we hold ourselves accountable and show how we’re building better futures on the African continent. We are proud of the impact we have made over the past year,” says Ruwayda Redfearn, Deloitte Africa CEO.

Redfearn took office in June this year as the firm’s first female CEO. “Our goal is to remain at the forefront of driving meaningful change, making an impact in society through the services we provide. Our continued focus is on developing people and driving positive change in communities we operate in as well as the environment,” she adds.

Redfearn describes her vision for the firm as that of being a trusted global partner on the continent, helping to improve the competitiveness of its markets and solving some of the most pressing challenges including health, education and financial inclusion as well new areas such as data analytics, cyber security and artificial intelligence. “To achieve this, we must be a profitable, sustainable and a diversified firm that delivers quality across all disciplines. I am proud to say that we have made huge strides in all these areas.”

Deloitte Africa achieved revenue of R6,3 billion in 2022, up from R5,9 billion the previous year, with 6855 staff across the continent. Redfearn notes that this revenue is underpinned by the firm’s robust multidisciplinary model which they intend to refine without compromising their independence, even as competitors are contemplating splitting their audit from non-audit business.

BLENDED FINANCE: BRIDGING THE GAP IN EMERGING MARKETS IN SUPPORT OF THE SDGS

Amid the widespread global support for the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), there was an underlying concern among economists and financial advisors in the emerging and frontier markets: public sector and donor funds were stalled, if not regressing, and the funding gap to realize the SDGs was increasing.
