INDIAN AIR FORCE DAY
But, with decades of hard work and dedication, India advanced so much that the world powers were astonished with its development. This development isn't just limited to economic development or political development but to defense and the army as well. With enormous contributions from numerous renowned personalities, India rapidly grew its strength, including Air Force.
The Indian Air Force, also known as 'Bharatiya Vayu Sena' was officially established on 8 October 1932, by the British. Its first AC flight came into being on 01 Apr 1933 with six RAF-trained officers and 19 Havai Sepoys (air soldiers). The aircraft inventory consisted of four Westland Wapiti IIA army co-operation biplanes at Drigh Road as the "A" Flight nucleus of the planned No.1 (Army Co-operation) Squadron.
National Air Force day is celebrated on October 8 every year. It is a matter of great pride for Indians. It inspires a patriotic zeal among the citizenry of the air arm of the Indian Armed Forces. The President of India acts as the Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Air Force (IAF). The Chief of Air Staff, an air chief marshal is responsible for the operational command of the air force. Every year, the Air Force Day is celebrated at Hindon base in presence of IAF chief and senior officials of the three armed forces. These celebrations include an air display where the most crucial and vintage aircraft put up a magnificent show.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) is the air arm of the Indian armed forces with the primary mission to secure Indian airspace and conduct aerial activities during armed conflicts. More than 170,000 personnel are in service with the Indian Air Force. Its personnel and aircraft assets rank fourth amongst the air forces of the world.
The Indian Air Force not only safeguards Indian territory and national interests from all threats but also provides support during natural calamities.
