Hotel industry witnesses one of the highest attrition rates. How do you ensure hiring the right candidate, and what are some key retention measures deployed to curtail the accelerating rate?
Aditi Das (AD): More than ever, we, at any Marriott hotel today, emphasise on driving Marriott's five core values of 'Putting People First, 'Pursue Excellence', 'Embrace Change', 'Act with Integrity, and 'Serve our World'. Each of us, from the GM to the last associate who joined, ensures that we spread positivity and know the individual hotels USP's. We take a holistic outlook on our team's welfare and encompass emotional, mental, and physical wellbeing. Along with providing basic facilities like clean bunkers and lockers, nutritious cafeteria meals, and a safe working environment, we have a No OT policy and a new India leave policy rolled out in January 2022 to ensure we can retain high-performing talent.
Anupama Jaiswal (AJ): There is a huge ongoing debate that is taking place on the lack of availability of quality talent across levels. Most often, as per their talent retention pitch, I have heard companies talking about offering an environment where employees are nurtured to learn and grow within the company. Sadly, a clear career path strategy has ceased to be the reason for attracting and retaining talent.
The focus on getting quality talent has to start right from the time a school student begins to think of pursuing their career in the sector:
