As an active duty officer in the U.S. Army for seven years, Roxanne Petraeus was used to a rather radical form of pay transparency: Any soldier's pay can be calculated if you know their rank, time served, and service. That's why in 2019, five years after she'd left the Army and launched New York City-based compliance training platform Ethena, Petraeus made sure to institute pay transparency from the get-go: "You can't say that people are your company's greatest asset and then pay them arbitrarily," she says.
