Revolutionising Sports: The Gamification of Fan Experience
Outlook Business|September 2024
As the sports industry embraces digital transformation, gamification emerges as a key player in reshaping fan engagement, empowering viewers, and expanding the reach of traditional and emerging sports.
Revolutionising Sports: The Gamification of Fan Experience

The convergence of sports and technology is leading to a seismic shift in how spectators interact with their favourite events. With the advent of smartphones and interactive platforms, the once passive experience of watching sports is evolving into a dynamic, participatory event.

Unmish Parthasarathi, Founder & Executive Director of Picture Board Partner, set the stage by highlighting the significant evolution in fan engagement. "Gaming today can be a noun, an adjective, or a verb. Fans, especially the younger generation, are no longer passive observers. They are leaning forward contributing to the story as it unfolds, thanks to the digital tools at their disposal. This shift is only going to accelerate in the next three to five years," he emphasised.

Parthasarathi further elaborated on the profound impact of this shift, drawing attention to the transition from traditional, passive forms of media consumption, such as radio, print, and television, to more interactive digital experiences.

The discussion moved to fantasy sports, a sector that has been at the forefront of this digital transformation, offering fans the chance to create and manage their own teams, thus fostering a deeper connection to the sport.
