We are talking about none other than Roopa Mehta. She was born into a family with deep respect for Indian culture and made their presence felt in Indian history. Roopa was born in Patna hospital, where her mother worked as a doctor. Her father was a brilliant man and a freedom fighter. Roopa and her family shifted to Delhi soon after Roopa was born. Her parent's specific interests in swadeshi goods made young Roopa appreciate art and culture from a very tender age. Her schooling was done at the Convent of Jesus & Mary, Delhi. She realized she developed a sense for learning the subject of economics and so got her Economics honors degree from Lady Shree ram college, Delhi. She further persuaded an M.B.A degree from the Faculty of management studies, Delhi university. Her love for studying the Indian economy and how to better it was highly inspired by the foreign newspapers her father used to bring. Her father also used to discuss the issues related to industries with young Roopa.
Roopa was very ambitious, but her career path was still uncertain. However, she went to Mumbai after getting an opportunity to work with The Taj Hotels. She later got married and continued with the same job. Little did she know that her destiny was going to change. Her husband's family was heavily involved in the textile industries, where they emphasized artisanal skills. This time, the thought of constantly not belonging to the hospitality industry bugged her with greater intensity. In hotels, she was found often lost; one could see her heart being elsewhere. She later quit the job, and her family saw her potential in management. She then got involved in a shop setting, designing products and managing the supply chain. She shifted to Kolkata, but this time to work with something she loved.
