GUN SALUTES RING OUT ON ACCESSION DAY CEREMONIAL MARKS ONE YEAR SINCE CHARLES BECAME KING

The date of 8 September 2022 wasn't just was also, of course, the date when her son became King. A new chapter for the monarchy began immediately and that historic occasion was remembered across the country last week, with commemorations to mark His Majesty's first Accession Day anniversary.

Union flags were flown on Government and public buildings all day, while Accession Day gun salutes were carried out. The King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery fired a 41-gun royal salute in Hyde Park at midday, supported by the Band of the Grenadier Guards, and one hour later, the Honourable Artillery Company fired a 62gun royal salute from the Tower of London.

Many of the soldiers and horses who participated were also part of the state funeral procession last year.
