But with the My Way star's daughter Tina on hand to help him prepare for his role in the world premiere at Birmingham's famous Rep theatre of Sinatra The Musical, Tony Award-winning US actor Matt Doyle was ready to do it his way.
"Completely overwhelmed" by the honour, the 36-year-old exclusively tells HELLO! of his elation at being offered the part: "I was on cloud nine. It's equal parts thrilling and exciting and an honour. And then, the other side of it is absolutely daunting and terrifying. I'm making sure I carry Frank's own blind confidence that he had and that made him so successful. Any time I feel the impostor syndrome start to sink in, I try to trust that I'm there for the right reason."
Listening to Frank's distinctive hits as a child makes this all the more special for Matt, who last year won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for his performance as Jamie in the Broadway revival of Stephen Sondheim's Company.
"Being able to sing these unbelievable songs, the classic American songbook, that is everything I grew up on and was so in love with," he says.
WOMEN IN HIS LIFE
At the heart of Sinatra The Musical is Frank's rise to fame and the struggles he faced, especially in his turbulent private life the well-documented love triangle with his first wife, Nancy Barbato, played by Phoebe Panaretos, 32, and his passionate affair with movie goddess Ava Gardner, played by 34-year-old Ana Villafañe.
