Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank took to social media to announce the birth of their second son, whom they have named Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank.
In a break from royal tradition, whereby such announcements are usually made by Buckingham Palace, Eugenie instead posted two photos on Instagram. One shows the newborn fast asleep in a knitted blue-and-white hat, while in the other, Eugenie and Jack’s two-year-old son August lovingly strokes his baby brother’s head.
ROYAL TRIBUTE
Sharing the news with her 1.8 million followers, the King’s niece said that Ernest had been born several days earlier, on 30 May, weighing 7lb 1oz. She explained that his names were in honour of his great-great-great-grandfather George V, whose third given name was Ernest, Jack’s late father “Grandpa George” Brooksbank and “my Grandpa Ronald” – Ronald Ferguson, the late father of Eugenie’s mother Sarah, Duchess of York.
“Augie is loving being a big brother already,” Eugenie, 33, added.
Her post was followed by a statement from the Palace, which said it was “pleased to share” the news, adding: “Her Royal Highness has shared photographs on her Instagram account this afternoon.”
Eugenie’s mother Sarah also told of her joy at the arrival of her third grandchild, saying: “He’s a very seriously beautiful little boy.” Sharing one of the photos on Instagram, she wrote: “The importance of Ernest. Thank you so much… clever Eugenie and Jack and August Brooksbank.”
