THERE’S a killer fungus among us — and scientists fear the scourge is spreading across America and could soon terrorize the world!
Candida auris, commonly called C. auris, kills more than one in three infected people and experts warn the drugresistant mold is extremely bad news for folks who are already sick, use invasive medical devices or frequently stay at health care facilities!
The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) warns C. auris has spread at “an alarming rate,” particularly in medical buildings. But chillingly, it is now being detected in other locations for the first time — with five dangerous outbreaks in Nevada.
Scientists say many more cases are likely going undetected because the fungal infection is not easy to diagnose and symptoms, which include fever and chills, are common to other ailments.
