What you see is what you get when it comes to husbandand-wife duo, James and Clair Buckley.
James, who rose to fame as the outrageous Jay Cartwright in E4 sitcom The Inbetweeners, tied the knot with Clair, now 36, in 2012, after initially bonding over their “obsession” with the Beatles.
But fast-forward 12 years and now with two sons – Harrison, 13, and Jude, 11 – their fiery banter, cheekiness and love for each other is still very apparent as they chat exclusively to new.
Although they would never renew their vows (“What’s the point?” James, 37, tells us), the nitty-gritty details of marriage and relationship non-negotiables have been at the forefront of their hit vlog At Home With The Buckleys and podcast In Sickness And In Health since it began in 2022.
Here, the couple chat all about their new podcast and whether James still keeps in touch with his old Inbetweeners co-stars…
Hi, you two! We love watching you on social media. Was it daunting at first to open up about your relationship?
Clair: Truthfully, not really. We’d already opened up our lives on our vlog, plus we’re very much just ourselves. It’s probably annoying because we get on very well.
James: Yeah, even our arguments are funny because they’re so stupid. Nowadays, if I’ve done something that I know will annoy Clair, I’ll actually save it and tell her on the podcast. I want her genuine reaction.
It sounds like you’ve got a good balance. After 12 years of marriage, would you consider renewing your vows?
Clair: Do you know what? Two people I know renewed their vows and got divorced, like a month later. I think there’s some sort of curse with that, if I’m honest.
