Wayne Rooney sparked concern among fans when he pulled out of his debut appearance on BBC’s Match Of The Day after recently suffering a back injury.
Among those worried about the former England footballer’s health is his wife Coleen, who has been taking care of him at home.
Wayne, 38, hurt his back during a family break with Coleen, 38, and their children Kai, 14, Klay, 10, Kit, eight, and Cass, six.
Just moments before Match Of The Day aired, he posted a message on X, formerly known as Twitter, to explain his absence. He wrote, “Gutted not to be making my debut on the iconic @BBCMOTD show tonight, it’s something I have wanted to do since I was little.
“Unfortunately I have sustained a painful back injury during a holiday with my family but I look forward to being part of the team in the near future. Good luck to @GaryLineker and the guys for tonight’s show and see you soon.”
Fans were quick to send him good wishes, with one writing, “Get well soon Wayne – looking forward to see you on @BBCMOTD soon.”
Another posted, “Speedy recovery champ!” A third added, “Get well soon mate… Back pain is awful.”
