'Covid reminded me of the fragility of life'

TV presenter Katie Piper is having a busy summer. After filming a new documentary in the US, she’s now preparing to enjoy some quality time with her husband, Richard James Sutton, and their two young daughters.

In this exclusive chat with new, the Loose Women and Katie Piper’s Breakfast Show host – who was made an OBE in 2022, for services to charity and victims of burns and other disfigurement injuries – opens up about her favourite moments with Belle, 10, and Penelope, six, as well as the lesson she learnt about the “fragility of life”.

Hi, Katie! It’s the school holidays now, how is it going?

It’s all about the planning! We’ve got 10 days in Spain with the kids then we’ll come back and do a mad load of washing and repacking and go to Portugal with my family. My siblings have all got kids around the same age, so it’ll be an amazing time: no make-up, cooking, chilling, and letting the kids play with pool inflatables!

That sounds like bliss. You’ve had a busy time at work recently, haven’t you?

Yes, I finished the breakfast show in June and then I went to New Orleans for all of July to work on a documentary. That’s all I can tell you so far – we’re still making it and you’ll see it on telly later this year.

Is it hard choosing jobs when you have kids?
