When real-life couple Harriet Dyer and Patrick Brammall began writing their Australian sitcom Colin From Accounts, they never expected to be stopped on red carpets by British TV royalty a year later.
The Aussie actors star in the comedy as medical student Ashley and bar owner Gordon, who are brought together when Gordon-distracted by Ashley -runs over a dog. The unlikely pair adopt the injured canine, who they name Colin, and strike up a romance, despite their stark differences.
The sitcom shot Harriet and Patrick to fame when it landed on BBC iPlayer and gained a legion of British fans - including The Crown's Queen Elizabeth II star Imelda Staunton.
"She came up to us on the Bafta red carpet and said, 'You don't know me but I'm Imelda Staunton and I love Colin!" Harriet, 35, says ahead of series two.
Patrick, 48, adds, "We said, 'We do know you, mate. We know you, Your Majesty!"" The couple, who married in 2021 and have a two-year-old daughter, admit that they still "can't grasp" how popular the show has been in the UK.
